Grounding Practices For Women Who Feel Overwhelmed

September 14, 20253 min read

There was a season in my life when I couldn’t slow down. Even when my body begged me to rest, I pushed. I thought being tired and anxious was just part of being a “strong woman.” At the time, I was deep in survival mode, running on subconscious programs of lack, control, and fear I wasn’t even aware of. I believed that if I just stayed focused, kept my head down, and ploughed through 80-hour workweeks, it would eventually give me what I wanted.

It didn’t.

Instead, I found myself having daily panic attacks (you know the ones that make you feel like you're having a heart attack, and have you calling your mom every day- that was me) that made it nearly impossible to go to school, be with friends, or even function. My body finally shut down completely after I broke out in hives from head to toe for “no apparent reason.” That was my wake-up call. I realized, in that moment, that my health wasn’t just important — it was everything. And not only that, but how I achieved my goals mattered just as much as the goals themselves, no matter what the world told me about success.

The Earth had always been my safe space — the quiet place where I could find peace among the flowers, animals, and trees. But somewhere along the way, in all the busyness of trying to do things “the right way” as a young adult, I had forgotten that rhythm. I was being called to listen differently. To return to the roots of herbalism and the living energy of the earth’s cycles.

One of the first practices I returned to was the simplest one: grounding. Especially when I felt an anxiety attack rising. I would step outside — whether it was in front of my apartment, my dorm, or any quiet patch of grass I could find — and focus only on the ground beneath my feet. The grass was cold. My shoulders dropped. My breath deepened. My heart slowed. For the first time in weeks, I felt something steady inside me. It was so simple, yet it reminded me: I had roots. I had a place to return to.

That’s what grounding is — not another task on the to-do list, but a gentle invitation to remember yourself.

Here are a few practices that helped me return to my body:

Barefoot Grounding — I still step outside barefoot for five minutes whenever my mind is spinning. It’s a direct reminder that I belong here, in this body, in this moment.

Breath Reset — Hand on heart, hand on belly. A few deep breaths whisper to my nervous system: you’re safe.

Flower EssencesRed Cedar to anchor in safety to the body and nervous system for when the world feels “too much.” Yarrow for when I need protection and to reconnect with my own energy, as opposed to everything pulling at me.

I often begin these rituals with the New Moon. There’s something powerful about planting an intention in the quiet reset of that fresh start feeling each lunar cycle, but you can start anytime and track how it goes this cycle for you.

Grounding is how I started to rebuild myself from the inside out. It’s also why I created From Root to Bloom — to give women a container where they can grow steadier, softer, and stronger in their own rhythms.

If you’re curious, you can begin with my free 7-Day Reset Ritual Guide. It’s filled with the same simple practices that first brought me back home.
